A challenge faced by many vulnerable Coastal States is a lack of support and resource to partake in decision-making that impacts their communities directly. By being excluded from the conversation, the needs of the communities go ignored. This leads to exploitation by distant water fleets and excludes small-scale fishers from fair market access.
SFACT provides the funds for Indian Ocean nationals to receive the necessary training and technical support that allows them to protect and restore the natural resources that fall within their jurisdiction. It also allows for sustainable development within their communities, and technical advancements that facilitate that development.
